Going to be moving from the flatlands of KS to Colorado, so a proper method of transportation for winter is required.. in comes the only SUV I’ve ever liked:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It’s a 2018 4runner TRD Off Road Premium. Added came the Sunroof, TRD Pro wheels & skid plate, and predator side steps.

Having never owned an SUV its definitely a change, not used to all the body roll and weight when trying to accelerate and slow down, but it’s fun nonetheless. Already went camping once at a nearby lake, lots of storage room and 4x4 has already dug itself out of some snow, which is good practice before moving to the real winter in Colorado.

Looking forward to adding some better AT tires and small mods like amber fog lights to be more capable. On top of some subtle blacking out of trim pieces on the outside, but not 100% sure on that yet.

I’ve only put 500 miles on it, so my experience is limited to commuting 2 miles to and from work and the 45 mile drive from the stealership. So far tho, I’m enjoying it’s comfort and subtle ride.

With this I no longer have a fun car... which means I get to save up for one down the road ^_^ been really thinking of something light and nimble but not all that powerful, a la 4c.

So looks like everyone in Colorado has only one of 4 vehicles, LOL

1. A Subaru

2. Pickup

3. Jeep Wrangler

4. 4Runner

There’s a not insignificant number of Saabs still running around as well, weirdly enough.

OEM are candlelight level of light. The amber upgrades I’m looking at produce 3x the light with less eye fatigue due to warmer color and reflects less in snow.

I love the silver TRD rims! Go with 275/70-17 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 tires, they fit & look great.

Give me a shout when you get here! the 80 series likes company.

As far as tires go, an A/T with a snow rating is a great call in CO. KO2's, General Grabbers, etc.

BajaDesigns is coming out with a SAE fog lens - early 2009.. worth the wait. Of course I converted my fogs to driving lights because reasons. .

Rigid makes SAE ones now, and the Hella G4 is another ‘lega l’ option.

Should be either December or January, so soon! I definitely will.

KO2s are what I have in mind, trying to decide how wide I want to go. Since I’m not doing a lift in the nea r future I’ll likely stick with 265 or 275. What are you rocking?

I’ve got an 80 series Land Cruiser, and it’s currently 305/70r16, but the 80 is quite a bit different than the 4runner. I’m not familiar with tire clearances, but I ’d think you could size up 1x or 2x and be ok.

If you’re looking to get on some trails, I’d recommend the 275's.

It’s true. There’s a guard at the state border and he asks if you’re moving in-state. If you reply yes, you’re automatically given a rusty Subaru, Toyota Pickup, Wrangler, or 4Runner, your choice of stickers to adorn the rear of said vehicle, and a rescue dog.

Now that’s a nice rig. I’m a huge fan of the Land Cruiser.

I was thinking 275 might be the sweet spot as all it would require is a little fender trim. Are you familiar with lots of trails around the area?

Sliders are much better. Bolt on or weld on are both good. you will be much happier if you rub something with them.

Check out Swell Runner, Jason started out as a car guy with an Off-Road and it all goes downhill from there..

If you’re gonna be in Denver, winter there is beautiful, I drove my lowered miata with DWS06s year round for 2 years and only got stuck once, and there were literally dozens of other cars stuck it was a completely unplowed ramp.

If it’s anything like that last one I drove (around 2015? I don’t think they’ve changed since then ), these things drive like a rolling marshmallow. All that nose dive on braking, the lift on power (and they have so little), all the body roll... I do like them, though. The wife is pushing for an SUV and if I was buying one for myself , I’d probably get one of these , but since it’s for her, I’d prefer something car-based that is l ess likely to roll over. She isn’t getting one to go off-road like I would.

You’re spot on. But since I do plan on going off-road I do need to softer setup - but if I ever get serious about it and get a lift, some of the setups actually have adjustable shocks to give you a firmer ride when you’re on the road to avoid some dive/lift.

25 can be sketchy, but it’s mostly the weather taking care of itself, it’ll snow 6 inches one day and be 50 and sunny the next and it’ll all be gone.
